Brett Somsen Returns to Paulsen as Director of Paid Media
Brett Somsen first arrived at Paulsen in 2006 to work as a developer for what was then an emerging web team. He reflects on that experience with a glimmer in his eyes as he talks about the personal and professional growth he experienced and the relationships he built.
In 2008, he left Paulsen for a new opportunity in performance marketing at IDC Networks; sixteen years later, life has come full circle for him. Brett returned to Paulsen in October to serve as Director of Paid Media, and he is thrilled to be back.
"When I left Paulsen, I left on good terms. I had made a lot of really good friends and it was hard for me to leave," says Brett. And even though much has changed in terms of personnel over a decade and a half, he feels confident about his return to Paulsen. "I know the management team and the types of people they bring to work here. Paulsen is a great place to be," says Brett.
During his time with IDC Networks, Brett was involved in just about every aspect of digital marketing, including strategic planning, optimization and reporting.
"I realized how much I enjoyed media strategy and figuring out where all of the puzzle pieces go," he says. "Every client we have has different goals; there's no one-size-fits-all approach."
"Adding someone with Brett's level of knowledge and expertise to our media team is a huge win for Paulsen," says Marcus Squier, President and CEO. "Plus, Brett comes in with a great understanding of our purpose as an agency and will help us make an even bigger impact for the clients we serve."
Brett's life outside of work includes time spent with his wife and three daughters. He has a long tenure as a volunteer softball coach — highlighted by a club team state championship this past summer — and enjoys boating with family and friends in Yankton. He's also an avid runner who has completed 20 half marathons so far.
