Agency Aims to Help Electric Cooperatives Strengthen Trust, Transparency, Communication

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — [July 10, 2025] — Communication challenges for electric cooperatives have become more complex as they navigate policy shifts, rising costs, new load demands and shifting member expectations. Paulsen, a marketing agency with a background in rural cooperative communications, is growing its role within the industry as a new associate member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).

“Co-ops are built on trust—but that trust has to be continually earned through transparency and communication,” said Allyse Steffen, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Paulsen. “We’ve seen firsthand how electric cooperatives are struggling to tell their story, connect with members, and coordinate communication across complex networks. That’s where we come in.”

Paulsen has worked with dozens of electric distribution cooperatives, G&Ts and RTOs, helping them tackle communications challenges for largely rural customers head-on, from brand positioning and public relations to member engagement, issue response and creative content.

“Electric co-ops don’t just power homes—they power opportunity, resilience, and connection,” said Marcus Squier, CEO of Paulsen. “We’re honored to stand alongside NRECA members, helping them lead with confidence and communicate their value amid growing scrutiny around reliability, affordability, and community impact.”
