Upon completing a summer internship as a web developer in August 2021, Binod Magar was beyond excited when the management team approached him about staying at Paulsen full-time.
“This is perfect,” he says, reflecting on the summer internship experience at Paulsen and his new role as Front End Web Designer. “The team, the culture, the work we do—it’s been great.”
Binod initially entered the marketing field with a background as a digital artist, having earned a bachelor of arts in graphic and web design from the University of South Dakota. He has since broadened his resume and is working on completing a certificate in web development from Southeast Technical College.
“Binod is a wonderful addition to our web team,” says Sara Steever, Chief Technology Officer at Paulsen. “He possesses such a wide skill set, and he demonstrated his versatility and willingness to help out however he could during his internship. We simply could not be happier to have him here at Paulsen full-time.”
That internship experience was enriching for Binod. He worked on several client projects over the course of the summer, including website development for South Dakota Beef, Prairie Malt and Summit Contracting. In addition, he worked with fellow interns Max Bultena and Christine Moening on Brand Traction, an asset management platform tailored to the needs of rural brands.
What he discovered he enjoyed most about web development is the ability to troubleshoot issues the team would run into while working on a new site. “Once you fix that problem, it feels really good,” he says. “You’re making a positive impact.”
He looks forward to honing his skills in his new role at Paulsen. “I’m learning more and more, but I still feel like I have more to learn,” says Binod.
A native of Nepal, Binod immigrated to the U.S. with his family at age 10 and has called Sioux Falls home ever since. He enjoys painting and is an avid soccer player as well.
